Plot summary: The film is set in 1914 when Lebanon was under Ottoman rule and Adla was living with her grandmother. She was awaiting the day of her engagement with her beloved Abdo [Ihsan Sadek]. When Abdo was out shopping for a wedding ring he was seized by Ottoman soldiers and impressed into forced labor chopping trees in the local forest to be taken for military use. Ottoman soldiers were occupying Adla's village of Ain El Joz, confiscating its wheat and exploiting its labor.
