Plot summary: A scientist's son named Ichthyander has had shark gills surgically implanted by his father as a cure for a childhood lung disease; this enables him to live underwater. It also prevents him from living in the open air, which separates him from his beloved Gutiere Baltazar, [Anastasiya Vertinskaya] the beautiful daughter of a pearl fisherman. In the year of its release this was the most popular Soviet Export film.

The original Russian title is Chelovek-Amfibiya.
