Webb and screenplay by Ken Taylor. Plot summary: In 9th Century England the Danes were marauding and ransacking the country, so Alfred abandons plans to become a priest and leads the Christians in defense of the country. The Danes are defeated and Alfred becomes a hero, but now his passion for God has become tainted with a lust for blood.
