This is a 29" x 43" Argentine one-sheet poster for the 1969 Federico
Fellini film Satyricon based loosely on a series of bawdy and
satirical episodes from a book attributed to Gaius Petronius Arbiter
written in the first century with story and screenplay by Federico
Fellini, Bernardino Zapponi and Brunello Rondi and starring Martin
Potter as Encolpio. Plot summary: When Encolpio's lover Gitone [Max
Born] is sold to the actor Vernacchio [Fanfulla] by Ascilto [Hiram
Keller], Encolpio abducts Gitone in an act of reclamation while Gitone
is onstage performing with Vernacchio. After Encolpio and Gitone
leave together, Ascilto follows them and persuades Gitone to come back
with him. This is the first in the long series of fragmentary
vignettes that comprise the film after the fashion of Petronius's
book, which also survives only in fragments.
