This is a folded rerelease Egyptian film poster by an unknown artist
for the 1961 120-minute black-and-white Hassan Al Imam film The
Mute [al-kharsaa] (aka The Dumb Girl) based on the 1948
Jean Negulesco film Johnny Belinda with story and screenplay by
Mohamed Moustapha Sami and cinematography by Wahid Farid. Plot
summary: The mute girl Naima [Samira Ahmed] lived in a fishing village
by a lake with her father Derwish (Fakher Fakher) and his wife [Zouzou
Nabil]. A doctor [Imad Hamdi] came to the village to help the people
build a cooperative compound to relieve them of the domination of a
local bully named Atris [Zaki Rostom]. The doctor trained Naima as a
nurse but soon after she started working she was raped by Atris's son.
Naima's father found out what happend and accused the doctor of being
the cause; then the entire village turned against him. He left the
village, but returned to defend Naima. Naima found the rapist and
stabbed him with a knife; he then confessed to his crime. Naima
married a soldier from the village.
