This a 19.25" x 13.75" Iranian poster by an unknown designer made to
promote the 1956 Shahla Riahi film Marjan, starring Shahla
Riahi based on a story by Mohammad Asemi developed into a screenplay
by Monoochehr Keymaram, with cinematography by Ahmad Shirazi. Shahla
Riyahi was Iran's first woman director. The film was produced by Arya
Film. Plot summary: A tribe of gypsies lived near a village. Because
of his poverty one of the gypsies stole a sheep from the village
school. The young schoolteacher caught the gypsy. That gypsy's
daughter Marjan went to the village to see her father, who was
imprisoned at the school. There she met the young teacher and they
gradually fell in love. After a time the teacher went into town and
Marjan went looking for him, but she did not find him. She got a job
at a hospital there as a nurse. The teacher married a girl in town
and later he brought her to the same hospital to have her baby.
Marjan and the teacher saw each other again, but the teacher did not
recognize her. Marjan returned to her tribe heartbroken because of
her lost love.
