Yasaman has grown up with her mother Leila without ever seeing her father. Her relationship with her mother is contentious. Then Yasaman is struck in the street by a passing vehicle, goes into a coma and is said to be brain-dead. There is a crisis when it becomes apparent Yasaman's mother does know how to locate the father. When Laila finally does find Yasaman's father in prison she must simultaneously deal with unresolved issues in their former relationship and new problems that have developed in his life as she tries to arrange for him to see his comatose daughter.
