Here is a 27.5" x 39" Egyptian poster by an unknown designer made to
promote the 1958 142-minute Hussein Sedki color film Khalid ibn
al-Walid starring Hussein Sedki based on a screenplay by Hussein
Sedki and Hussein Helmy Al-Mohandes, dialogue by Ahmed Al-Sharbati and
Abdel Aziz Salam with cinematograpy by Hesham Wadid Serri. Plot
summary: Khalid was a hero among his people admired for his bravery.
When he met Layli at the Akaz Market he was drawn to her because he
found in her what he had not found in any other women. He decided to
go to her and to ask for her hand, but before he left his tribe was
suddenly defeated by the Muslim army at the Battle of Badr, the first
fight between the Muslims and the polytheists. Khalid revolted against
the defeat of his people and returned from his battle crowned with
wreaths of victory. He asked her to marry him, but she had become a
Muslim and called him to Islam. Khalid refused to change his beliefs.
In Mecca he found the ones who had adopted the new faith. Even his
brother had done this and was inviting him to embrace Islam. Khalid
converted to Islam and Mohammad the Prophet gave him the name
Seifollah. When he did this it upset the polytheists. Khaled met his
beloved again, for she had come to ask him to allow her to visit her
husband, whom Khalid's men had killed. Khaled tried to turn her away
from her husband with money, but she refused. Khalid felt he was
still in love with Layli and they decided to marry. Her murdered
husband's family learned of this and Layli preferred to get out of
Khalid's life rather than tell him what her husband's family had
threatened to do. Khalid waged a fierce war against the liar
Moseylama, defeated him, then met Fatma and won her heart. After
marrying her he drove out the Persians at the head of the Muslim army.
Then Fatma died, and the hero was left alone. Layli came again and
was hoping she could be happy with him, but he died.
