This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed to promote the 1972 105-minute Youssef Chahine color film Those People of the Nile [al-nas wal-nil]) based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Hassan Faoud and Nicolai Vigorovosky and cinematography by Yu-Lan Chen, Aleksandre Shelenkov and Abdel Aziz Fahmy. Plot summary: This film dramatizes the construction of the Aswan Dam in Egypt, which was a joint Russian-Egyptian project completed in 1971. When the film was completed in 1968 it was banned by both governments because of political issues; it was not cleared for official release until 1972 after some of the scenes had been filmed again. The film portrays the personal conflicts of displaced Russian workers and the displeasure of some Egyptian workers and local residents because of the impact of the diversion of the Nile.
