[al-nas wal-nil]) based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Hassan
Fouad and Nicolai Vigorovosky and cinematography by Yu-Lan Chen,
Aleksandre Shelenkov and Abdel Aziz Fahmy and starring Soad Hosny as
the painter Nadia. Plot summary: This film, a joint Russian-Egyptian
project finalized in 1972, dramatizes the construction of the High
Aswan Dam in Egypt. When the film was first completed in 1968 it was
banned by both governments because of political issues; it was not
cleared for official release until 1972 after some of the scenes had
been refilmed. The story portrays the personal conflicts of displaced
Russian workers and the displeasure of some Egyptian workers and local
residents because of the impact of the diversion of the Nile.
