Shown here is a 26.75" x 38.5" Egyptian poster made to promote the
1980 102-minute Hanry Barakat color film Shaaban the Thief
[sha'ban taht al-sefr] starring Adel Imam as Shaaban based on story,
screenplay and dialogue by Samir Abdelazim with cinematography by Said
Al-Shiemy. Plot summary: Shaaban is a poor worker who loves his
colleague Zeinab [Essad Youniss], but is unable to provide her with an
apartment. He tries to get a loan of 1000 pounds for this purpose
from the wealthy al-Ghatrifi Bey [Imad Hamdi] but is refused. When
al-Ghatrifi dies shortly thereafter his relatives try to take his
wealth but are unable to do so legally, so they talk Shaaban into
impersonating al-Ghatrifi's son with forged papers so he can get the
the money from the government. He agrees to this but insists on being
paid half the total inheritance of 6.5 million pounds.
