This is a 29" x 43" Argentine one-sheet poster using art by Reynold
Brown for the 1956 Charles F. Haas film Showdown at Abilene
based on the short story "Gunshy" by Clarence Upson Young, screenplay
by Berne Giler and starring Jock Mahoney as Jim Trask. Plot summary:
Jim Trask was once sheriff of Abilene until he went to fight for the
Confederacy during the Civil War. When he returns he finds everyone
thinks he is dead and his old friend David Mosely [Lyle Bettger] is
now engaged to his old sweetheart Peggy Bigelow [Martha Hyer]. Mosely
and the area's ranchers are also feuding with the local farmers over
land use. Trask resumes his work as sheriff at the insistence of
David Mosely. He reluctantly agrees to this because of a sense of
obligation to Mosely, since he inadvertently killed his brother Tad
during the war. Trask immediately begins enforcing a local law
requiring visitors to turn in firearms while in Abilene. The film was
remade in 1967 as Gunfight in Abilene starring Bobby Darin.
