The Gulf News reports that 21 more people were hanged in Iran today, apparently connected to a crackdown on "immoral behavior." We know that executions do not deter crime. They are simply carried out as state-sanctioned revenge, and, in the case of Iran, generally to terrorize the population and enforce political submission. They are heinous public crimes that have nothing whatsoever to do with God, religion or spirituality.
