IRINN on US-UK Relations
Broadcast 9 February by Iranian state satellite TV (IRINN):
Announcer: England, which had lost its previous power after World War I, tried to connect with America's newly emergent power in order to continue its policies under that cover.
The affiliation and alignment of the policies of America and England intensified after World War II in such a way that the government of England was the only serious ally of the United States throughout the years of the Cold War and afterwards.
This alignment continued during the 1990s during the first and second oil wars. Following America's decision to attack Afghanistan and Iraq England, which defined its own interests as parallel to those of this nation, went along.
Political Affairs Expert Mohajeri: A quick review of the events that took place after the Second World War will show that England's reduced economic and industrial power, Great Britain's reduced international military power and many other factors including emigration from England to the United States collectively created circumstances where England, to maintain the memory of Great Britain's international standing and to be able to get its share in international affairs, adopted a strategy of aligning itself with the policies of the United States of America in such a way that it brokered American policies and adhered to American orders in order to secure its own interests.
Announcer: In a difficult alliance, America's neo-conservative government and England's leftist government tried to make the Middle East the new stage for their aggression, but due to a lack of understanding of the region's political, cultural and social geography, they became mired in a deep quagmire in Iraq in such a way that public opinion in these two nations became sharply opposed to the war. Even their government leaders in the various political parties opposed the war and the policies of their governments.
The policies of America and England failed due to their occupation character, the failure to consider the interests of the people of Iraq and the abilities of this nation's government. The government of England is also under severe pressure domestically from the conservatives and this nation's representatives. On the one hand the people of England are questioning this nation's alignment with America's policies and on the other hand they are pressuring this nation's government for endangering the lives of English soldiers.
Political Affairs Expert Dehqan: These two great political leaders became completely despised, because on the one hand of the disappearance and killing of Britain's foreign minister as well as Mr. Clay, the English government's nuclear weapons supervising official in Iraq and on the other hand because of the disclosure of the lies Mr. Bush told to the people of the United States of America.
In the United States of America the people delivered a big "no" to the Republican Party and its leader Mr. George Bush by voting for the Democratic Party in the mid-term Congressional elections.
Political Affairs Expert Mohajeri: Based on the information the people of America and the people of Iraq obtained about conditions in Iraq from the people oF England, or to put more simply the hands of the two prominent men in the Iraq war Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair were revealed. A great deal of their poisonous propaganda was exposed and both of them became despised within their own countries. Their popularity declined, and their rivals were able to make more use of their bad actions on the international scene and the bitter reality ofthe Iraq war.
Every day the polls have shown that the people of these two nations have become pessimistic about their leaders, distrust them, and do not wish to rally behind their bellicose cries.
Announcer: In any case what is clear and acknowledged by American and English political leaders is the failure of the policies of these two nations in Iraq. These policies have increased the contempt of the people of the region for the imperialist policies of these powers, and on the other hand they have brought sharp protests from their people.
