IRINN on Nuclear Talks

Broadcast 23 February on Iranian state satellite TV (IRINN):

Announcer One: At the end of a round of consultations with certain European officials in Germany, this week the secretary of our country's Supreme National Security Council went to Rome and Austria. In addition to talks with officials from these two nations, he discussed Iran's nuclear case with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Announcer Two: Before this trip, officials from our nation's diplomatic apparatus reported the beginning of negotiations. The meeting between Larijani and El Baradei took place at a time when some Western parties, and especially America, actually damaged the IAEA's professional credibility by presenting Iran's case to the Security Council.

Announcer One: After the talks with El Baradei, Larijani said "the various parties want the negotiations to begin and our view of these measures is positive."

Political Affairs Expert Shaykh ol-Eslam: Any solution other than talks will be in no one's interest. As for the question of how we should discuss this issue and to what conditions we ought to agree, our views are quite clear.

We do not accept suspension. For their part, they are making every effort to prevent us having nuclear energy. We are trying to make the world understand that we want to create energy and they can also participate. In my view, our logic will ultimately prevail.
