"Pappy's Little Jug" by Phil Harris

From a 1948 RCA 45 RPM record

I first heard this at a very early age, as I played my dad's various records to see what they sounded like. I never saw him play any of them even once. This one was always a favorite!

Love Letters by Ketty Lester

Picture Disk 45 with Ketty Lester's recording of "Love Letters"

Following a tip from my old army buddy Don Swigert, I hunted the 1962 version of "Love Letters" by Ketty Lester. She sang it in the key of A in a relaxed 6/8 tempo (allegro, 124 BPM), presenting all of the essential ideas Elvis used in his 1966 recording. She makes me think of Shirley Bassey.

Listen.
